Protecting the Weak: A Martial Arts Rule Worth Remembering
When I first started training in martial arts, one of the core rules drilled into me was:“We will protect the rights of the weak with courtesy and modesty.”This was not just a slogan—it was a way of living. In Tang Soo Do, it is one of the Ten Articles of Faith, guiding students to become protectors of others, not bullies or aggressors.

More Than Self-Defense – Martial Arts in Vero Beach as a Humanitarian Effort
Here in Vero Beach martial arts, we often remind our students that martial arts is not about violence. It’s about improving lives. We train to become stronger, but we also train to help others who might be weaker, disabled, younger, or simply unable to defend themselves.Violence may sometimes be a last resort—but it should never be our only resort. True martial artists are first and foremost peacemakers.

A Shared Value Across Cultures
This idea isn’t just Korean. In Portuguese culture, there is also a belief that if you are in a position to help somebody, you should. These cultural values blend beautifully into the foundation of our CSD Kickboxing system. When we help others, we grow ourselves.

Why It Matters Today
In today’s world, it sometimes feels like courtesy and kindness are lost values. We see division, anger, and hostility, even in spaces where respect should be strongest. But in our House of Warriors martial arts family in Vero Beach, we live out the opposite. Our students—children, teens, adults, and seniors—train not just their bodies but their hearts, learning that martial arts is about lifting people up, not putting them down.

Passing Strength to Others
The beauty of martial arts is this: we empower ourselves, and then we use that power to empower others. It might be defending someone who is bullied, helping a friend through a hard time, or simply showing kindness when it’s needed most.
This is the martial arts I grew up with—and this is the martial arts I continue to pass on to every student who walks through our doors.
